Why do I want to wear these?
About two weeks ago, I decided it was time for Hannah to be potty trained. She seems aware of when things are happening and has this obsession with all things princess. So this should be pretty straighforward right, she’ll want to wear the big girl princess underwear. I took her to Target and let her pick out several packages of underwear. We came home and the first day went pretty well.
Over the last two weeks things have gone downhill fast. I had to switch to pull-ups because our house is completely carpeted and I don’t want it to smell like a barn. But with Sabrina underfoot, and the kids school, homework, and even just my everyday responsibilities, I kept forgetting to put her on the potty, and the pull-up was just the same as a diaper to her. If I remember to make her sit on the potty every half hour or so, she is bound to have some successes, but that is just not possible for me to keep up. I even bought M&M’s and told Hunter and Emma to announce when they were going potty, and have Hannah see them go in and come out, and then come to me to get their M&M reward. They loved the idea, but with Hannah, no go. She still doesn’t really care. So, I think I’ll give it up and try again when she’s more interested. What do you think? Does anyone have the magic technique?
Boy, have I ever been there! I think you are right on target with just waiting and trying again when she’s more interested. I have had the same thing happen with each of my kids, and in the end it took less time to potty train becasue I didn’t fight them. Good luck! And I love that picture of Hannah, so cute! I just love the Princess stage, it didn’t last nearly long enough with Ciel.
Heidi likes to wait till company is over to get out the potty training video, with the bum show, and she has Holden’s potty in the living room, seems to be doing good with that, but Mark gets a little scared whenever he tries to empty his own potty. I’ll let Heidi tell this I guess…(sorry Heidi)
We have a rule that only Mommy and Daddy can empty the potty but this rule is generally ignored when he does his “stealth tinkles” w/o telling anyone he has gone. But I do keep the potty in the livingroom on top of a large waterproof mat so that he can watch tv, drink juice, play and use the potty all where I can sit and be comfortable (It’s all about me I guess) Sitting on the edge of the bathtub waiting for a little boy to tinkle is highly overrated. Potty training would have to be one of my least favorite mommy things to do.
With Owen the cool underwear wasn’t really enough. Then I bought a car from the movie “Cars” that he really wanted and told him that he could only play with it if he was sitting on the potty or was wearing dry big boy underpants. That was all it took for him…the right bribe. Maybe wait a while then find something that she really wants and try that…Potty training is the worst!
