Fridge Advice?
The house we are renting doesn’t have a fridge, and we have never had to have our own before. We need to get one now, so do you have any suggestions? Any we should steer clear of? Know of any great deals? I like the idea of having the freezer on the bottom since we don’t access it as often. Although then it’s easy access to the ice cream for the kids. Hmmm. I’m thinking of checking out Craig’s list first to see what’s there.
We had to get another side by side since it was the only way for us to get the most cubic feet of fridge and still be able to fit it into the built-in space between the cabinets in our kitchen. I really like the water on the door feature, especially since the kids can easily get their own drink of water, and the ice dispenser is very handy too. I know Scott and Korby are constantly trying to keep their little ones out of the freezer on the bottom of their fridge, so that nixed that style of fridge for me while some of our kids are still little, but I do love the whole freezer on the bottom design otherwise. For us it boiled down to getting the most cubic feet to fit into the space we had, and side by side happened to be the best one.
I know 2 people with freezer on the bottom and the both love it. You could also get a fridge lock (at Walmart) for the bottom so kids couldn’t get in. I think sometimes a water dispenser on the outside is a big tempation for little kids, but having it on the inside lowers internal temp since you’re waiting for the little stream to fill up your glass. Good Luck and be sure to let us all know what you pick!
I am not crazy about the freezer on the bottom for the very reason you cited…ice cream for every meal.
You need an ice maker! Yah, not too keen on freezer on the bottom fridges. I’ve caught Holden and Liv in the clinic freezer a few times(gosh Heidi control your children.
Having the freezer on the bottom is good and bad. Estee and Taft are constantly in it. It is too easy to open. They carry around the frozen food. It is a bit frustrating. I love the size of our fridge. I like being able to look directly into the fridge and not having to bend down to get what I wantsince everyone is constantly hungry. We havent found a freezer lock that can keep our kids out.
Mammy and I got and LG with bottom freezer. Scott and Korby have the same one. We like it, and it’s GREAT to not have to bend over to get stuff out of the fridge, but I’ve heard from other family members that it can be a headache with little kids since they can open the freezer door so easily since it’s on their level. But we love ours.
Also, I can’t count the number of times that I have seen a child sitting/standing on the freezer/ fridge divider.
