American Idol

I thought it was interesting that Taylor Hicks won American Idol last night. It seems that the winners of that show have all been regular type people. The reason this fascinates me is that the winners on this show never seem to correlate with the way pop stars are promoted in the media. It seems that they are usually promoted as being sexy and beautiful. From the way Americans have voted on the show, particularly for guys like Taylor and Clay, it seems that what they really want in a musician is talent, not all of the hype. Although I usually agree with Simon’s comments regarding talent, I think it is surprising how far off he is when it comes to image. I think it’s actually refreshing to know that most Americans value real talent and don’t buy into the idea of beauty and sex appeal equaling success. What do you think?

I agree with you. I wonder if people like Clay would have been laughed right out of a record exec’s office based solely on looks. Might I add though, that every time I saw Taylor on screen I wanted to dye his hair so much it was killing me. I know other people liked his rustic look, but I was always saying, “He could look SO YOUNG if he would just dye the hair!” Sadly, I couldn’t watch IDOL as much this season since it interfered with my crazed “LOST” obsession.

I think a lot of people are tired of the “airbrushed perfection” that is pushed on us all of the time, and it’s very refreshing to find real talent, no matter what the “packaging” looks like.

Hey! What’s that supposed to mean? Be careful “Anne Onimous” or those Sparky Marky pages just might reappear…
