Wedding Dresses

I have been looking for dresses for my girls to wear at Matt and Ashley’s wedding in August. I would like to use their wedding colors: chocolate brown and aqua. It has been tough to find something that I really like so I’m throwing around the idea of making them myself. Yes, really. I went through some of the “easy” patterns (I didn’t want to fall in love with a hard one) and found this dress. I thought I would do knee length for the little girls and floor length for Emma. It only goes up to size 8, but I can just cut it a little bigger and do a 10 for Emma right? Heather, Mom? What do you all think, can I pull it off? Which color combinations should I use? Brown dress, aqua sash? Aqua dress, brown sash? Tracy, would you want to do this for Adriene too? I’m scared…

First off, I absolutley love the pattern you picked, and I just might have to make one for Haven and Gracen, it’s beautiful! And secondly, all I can say about sizing up the pattern is to measure Emma first, then look at the finished measurements of the chest, waist and length etc, and see how they match up in the sz 8, and Emma’s measurements. Sometimes I found I only had to lengthen a dress and didn;t have to size up the chest and waist at all. And this pattern has a dropped waist, and is sleeveless, which makes it even easier to dio it that way. If you do need to size up the bodice, then the cutting guide can usually tell you by how much by the increments on the other sizes. What kind of fabric are you going to use? I have never had an easy time with satin and I end up tearing my hair out as I sew, and I have never liked the end result. Just thought I would pass that bit of torture along, although you may have a great time with satin and I am the one with “satin issues”. Let me know how it goes, and I am excited to see the end results!

The dresses are gorgeous! My sewing machine is dead and I am hoping to talk Gary into getting me a new one soon. I need one before Halloween. I feel a need to make costumes.

I forgot to throw in my two cents on the color combo, which I love. I think either way you go will look beautiful, whether it’s brown w/ aqua sash, or the other way around. I am so in love with the color brown right now, and got quite a few brown outfits and clothing for Finn when I was pregnant, I simply love it, and it looks so cute on him too! I can picture your girls in either color dress with either sash color too, so I think it’s a matter of choice. You could also put Emma in one of the colors, and the two little girls in the other just to mix it up a bit, or have all three in the same. Like I said, they will look gorgeous no matter what, so good luck, I’m excited to see your end results! And again, I’m lovin’ the brown and aqua color choice.
