La La Baby

Hannah’s new favorite show is Teletubbies. She loves La La (the yellow one) I think mostly because she can say the name really well. She also loves the baby sun that rises and sets at the beginning and end of the show. In fact, that’s how she asks to watch the show, “la la baby?” La La has a big orange ball, and that seems to be Hannah’s favorite toy, so it’s her perfect match. It’s kind of a weird little show, but they seem to have mastered the minds of young toddlers, because all of my kids have been fascinated by it around this age. Hmmm….

Our Miracle

We put Hunter and Emma to bed and then started to get the babies and ourselves ready for bed. Hannah followed me into my bedroom and went straight to the open window. The windows in our room are big and doorlike, sitting less than a foot from the floor. That window has never been opened before and she went to check it out. Immediately, she leaned to look outside, but because the window was so low to the ground, she leaned and her upper body pulled her over. It all happened in two seconds before I could even say, “no!” I saw her feet come up and she disappeared out the window which had a 6 1/2 foot drop to concrete! I started screaming for Rob with what he says was such terror in my voice. I called for him twice and then yelled, “Hannah fell out the window!” By the time I said this, I was running to get outside to her. Rob was then running toward me and I pushed past him and ran to the back door and down the stairs to get to Hannah. I could hear Rob yelling her name with the same terror in his voice that I felt. I didn’t hear a huge screaming or crying and I couldn’t decide what that meant. What would I find when I got to her? By the time I got to the bottom of the stairs and turned, Hannah was up walking toward me and wimpering with a dazed look on her face. I scooped her up in my arms and held her tight as I cried. Rob came and clenched us both in his arms. We were all shaking. Then Rob said we needed to take her inside and check her out.

By now Hunter and Emma were out of their rooms and wondering what was going on. They ran out when they heard Mom and Dad screaming. The whole family gathered around Hannah and we looked her over. She had been wearing only a diaper and we wiped some bits of dirt and twigs from her back. There was a red patch of skin covering her lower back, but that was all we could see. We got a flashlight and checked to see that her pupils were dilating properly. They were! I then told Rob I wanted him to give her a blessing. He sat her on the couch, anointed her with consecrated oil and gave her what was the shortest, but most powerful blessing I have ever heard him give. He later told me that he felt a very strong feeling that he should bless her to have no lasting physical damage, and that this would never happen to her again. I felt an incredible wave of peace as he finished the blessing, and although I was still shaky and teary I knew she would be ok. I was so grateful to have that blessing for Hannah. We said a family prayer thanking Heavenly Father for protecting our little Hannah. We all truly believe that this was a miracle. I cannot explain how she would come out from that fall virtually unharmed except that there were angels there to cushion her fall. I did take Hannah into the doctor where she was thoroughly examined and besides about five little circular bruises where her vertebrae hit the concrete, she checked out completely normal. Amazing! Rob and I are so grateful to have her with us still and love all four of our babies so much more.

I pulled out the sofa bed and we all slept in the family room together. It was so hot and muggy that Rob and I spent most of the night wiping the kids down with wet washcloths and fanning them with children’s books. We were also upset about the events of the night, and I told Rob that the most important thing that happened that night was Hannah being saved from harm and death. The next was that he never blamed me for what happened. He never said anything even close to “how could you let this happen?” I was overwhelmed by his support of me since I was in the room and moving in what seemed like slow motion as I anticipated her fall. I will never get the image of seeing her flip out of sight and then seeing her laying flat on her back already by the time I got to the window. It was the most terrifying moment I have ever had. His saying that it wasn’t my fault was the ultimate manifestation of his love for me.

That night was the most miserable and the most glorious we have experienced. Who would have thought these two could exist together.

Hunter Boy? Mint Bow

There are new pictures in the Gallery. I used my SLR for most of the baptism and blessing pics, so I don’t have those to post yet. I have to get them on a disk first. I haven’t had much time lately to compose anything, but don’t give up on me, I’ll be back. Hunter thought it would be funny to post this picture of him, so I had his permission. I am just learning how to make these pretty chiffon bows and hope it will be a way to earn some money for our “Buy a House Fund.” Let me know what you think of them. Will they be wildly popular?

Slumber Party

Emma has been begging me to have a slumber party with her all week long. I told her we could do it Friday, when she didn’t have school the next day. So Friday rolled around and she was so excited. I have to admit, I was dreading it a little because unwinding once they are all in bed is so nice. But she was so cute about it. Once Hunter heard of our plans he wanted one too. So on Friday night there were two slumber parties at our house. One in Emma and Hannah’s room and one in Hunter’s room. Emma and I made up a bed for me on the floor between the girls beds and the three of us read books to each other (Emma and Hannah took turns reading too) and had some great conversation. Emma got out a picture of my wedding day and started asking me all about it. I told her how Daddy and I were sealed in the temple forever and how we looked in the mirrors after the ceremony and saw our reflections go on forever and ever. She thought that sounded so great and said, “you mean you’re sealed together like you’re in one of those Ziploc bags?” I said yes, we’ll always be together. Then she smiled and hugged me. We went on the do the dolls hair and listen to music. Both of the girls were so cute. About an hour later we said prayer, turned off the lights and went to sleep. My plan was to leave after they had fallen asleep, but I fell asleep before they did and Rob woke me up around 1 am asking if I wanted to sleep in a bed. I did, but it was so great, and I was glad I didn’t try to make an excuse not to do the sleepover. Rob said he Hunter and Sabrina had a fun night too. Hunter made decorations and they ate graham crackers and water, played with Sabrina, read stories and other good stuff. Maybe Rob can post more details on their night. It was a great start to the Father’s Day weekend.

The Butcher in the Family

Hannah's Cut FingerI have so much to write about lately, and some new photos to post, so be sure to check back here. I don’t have time to do it all right now, but wanted to add a story about our little Hannah. The other day I was making cookies (and by the way they turned out pretty good in spite of our wacky little oven) when I turned around and started talking to Hannah. She was waving her hand around saying, “Haw, haw” (that’s hot, hot). I thought she was talking about the cookies and said yes that’s right sweetie. Then I realized that her hand was all red. I went to get a closer look and noticed that she had cuts on top of her middle and pointer fingers. It was bleeding pretty constantly and didn’t look very deep or jagged, so I tried to just pinch it to stop the bleeding. She hated that and pulled her hand out of mine and kept poking at the cuts with her other hand trying to figure out what was going on. She wasn’t crying or upset except when I tried to squeeze her fingers. I watched it and started to get a little freaked out because it wasn’t stopping. My mind was racing, “what time is it? I need to get Emma to a ballet practice and then the family to the church for the talent show, should I just take her straight to the doctor’s office or go to the ER? I wonder if she will need stitches…” Then I got the idea to call my neighbor down the street who has 5 older children and is a nurse. I asked her to come take a look and tell me if I needed to worry. She came over a couple of minutes later and we got some band-aids wrapped tightly around it and put a sock over the top so she wouldn’t pull the band- aids off. That seemed to work, and no doctor visit needed! Thank goodness for great neighbors. I’m still not sure what Hannah did. I think she may have gotten a hold of some scissors that were on the counter. She can work the step stool like a pro, and is so quick… The very next day I was helping one of the older kids clear the table after dinner and turned around to see Hannah with a steak knife in each hand. She must have grabbed them off our plates when we weren’t looking. As if this weren’t scary enough, she was poking one of them into the plug socket!! Ahhhh, that curiosity of hers is trouble.
